Sophie Hollebecq portrait

Sophie Hollebecq,
a Brussels-based designer with an atypical background.

She started out as a fashion photographer and has been working as a freelance graphic designer for the past 15 years. Four years ago, she took a bachelor’s degree in interior design at Saint-Luc Brussels to deepen her creative process.

Challenged by the boundaries between design and the various creative skills, she broke them down to make them evolve, which led her to found her own design studio “holso”.

Her first lights collection made of recycled cardboard, which has the honor to be born with her new studio, springs from a constant reflection on the light. The idea of bringing warmth and comfort to those around us fascinates the designer, and it is essential to her that this happens through an aesthetic object, especially when it is part of our daily lives.

This first collection with a brutalist and contemporary tendency is playful and lively. All the models are to be set down or suspended, the idea being to make the light come alive according to our desires. Particular importance is given to the choice of materials, their durability, their environmental impact and their local aspect. The production is done in Belgium and each light is assembled by hand.

Pure lines, research of simple and neat details, and of materials that create a questioning effect are the points of reflection and particular attention of the holso studio.
